Through pro bono work, charitable giving and educating the next generation of lawyers, Waymaker strives to improve our communities and make a positive difference in others’ lives.
Waymaker has an active pro bono committee to identify and support a variety of pro bono matters within the firm. Pro bono efforts have included free representation to immigrants threatened with removal proceedings, to civil rights organizations, to victims of civil rights violations, and to individuals seeking access to various government assistance programs. The firm took on a Central District Pro Bono Panel case that firm attorneys tried to verdict against the San Bernardino Police Department for excessive use of force on behalf of a client injured during arrest who is now confined to a wheelchair. Recently, the firm provided free legal assistance to a civil rights organization with legal issues arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Waymaker supports community outreach programs such as Read to a Child program, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ Holidays from the Heart program, and the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice.
Waymaker attorneys are also encouraged to actively participate and volunteer time each year to legal foundations and charities of choice, and some hold board and leadership positions. Attorneys actively support legal organizations including:
Waymaker attorneys have also devoted extensive time to teaching the next generation of lawyers, by teaching and lecturing in law schools, and coaching middle and high school kids in debate.
Through the firm’s own pro bono activities and its unwavering support of the interests of its individual attorneys, Waymaker is committed to giving back to our communities.
