Ryan Baker Profiled by Daily Journal as Top Trade Secrets Lawyer 2024

Daily Journal named Co-Founding Partner Ryan Baker as one of California’s Top Trade Secrets Lawyers 2024 in its October 9, 2024 edition. “This case is important because it protects innovation and innovators,” said Baker speaking of his recent victory for IMD, Inc. in a penile implant case where a rival doctor violated an NDA to obtain trade secrets and then used that to secure two patents. The judge awarded $18 million in damages and the patents were invalidated.

In a case in the juice industry, Baker defended Paradise Splash against various intellectual property claims, including trade secrets, and the settlement for a fraction of the damages sought was paid by insurance and “this outcome allowed my client to continue building his business,” said Baker.

Baker said the value of patents is declining in favor of the value of trade secrets. “The cost of litigation continues to escalate based on the ever-expanding volume of available information. Discovery processes meant to conserve resources usually only increase cost and delay litigation, which results in more cost.”
