Los Angeles Business Journal named Managing Partner Scott Malzahn a 2024 Leader

of Influence: Thriving in Their 40s. The honor is based on Scott’s notable legal achievements and leadership in the larger community.

An accomplished trial and appellate lawyer who has won cases at every level, Scott has a complex civil litigation practice representing plaintiffs and defendants in intellectual property, fintech, and general commercial disputes. Scott and Waymaker recently won a $18.3 million award in a trade secrets case.

In 2019, he crafted the winning legal arguments adopted unanimously by the California Supreme Court in a decision that established a new legal test to govern anti-SLAPP cases. The published decision is now the leading California decision for anti-SLAPP motions brought under the catch-all provision and has been cited more than 900 times.

Active in the political community, Malzahn is President of Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization and was a core member of the trial team in Perry v. Schwarzenegger, which won a historic federal court decision striking down California’s ban on same-sex marriage on constitutional grounds.
